Obesity: Overeating isn't always the culprit

The nature of human beings is to always find a scapegoat to explain all our short comings. The latter half of the last 4 decades, when our eyes where opened up to the danger of this condition, food was quickly incarcerated for it had been found guilty of of causing this condition. However forensic evidence has shown that, although this culprit has been so rightfully charged, focusing our attention too much on him is making a grave mistake. There are other accomplices that play a great role in the attainment of this condition.

Surely, when we look at this in perspective, if food was the only culprit, then simple cutting down on what we eat would easily give us a solution to our problems. However a million people can profess that they gain weight anyway, even without eating anything other than a few leaves of lettuce!
Here are some of foods partners in crime.

Genetics.
One thing thus been noted was that individuals who tend to be obese usual come from families that have this condition. Why? Because your genes determine the nature of your physiological  system, that is, how your body functions. Thus if your system says" let there be fat', fat shall be there!
However it has been noted that obese families sometimes have a skinny in their brood. Its not a sign of infidelity! The dynamics of inheritance can make other brood members be able to resist the "be fat" instruction.
Which then brings the detectives of the fat crimes to the other suspects.

Environment
An individual's environment determines their eating habits. If you poor like me, living in the ghetto were there is a voetkok spaza at every corner, then you are likely to eat a lot of this beloved delicacy. In my traditional African Culture, skinny women are just not acceptable. A woman with more voluptuous curves is regarded as a typical home maker, probably the type to build a warm home due to the extra heat that she is deemed to radiate, who knows! Our modern settlement patterns also discourage physical activity. Most cooperate working class individuals do not find time to work out as they spend most of their time at work. After work its straight into the car where you drive home to a complex of tinny Winny apartments where any form walking about will only lead to you to the neighbours space who wont hesitate to report trespassing.  Even children are not free to run about an be wild

Hormonal conditions
The most common is hypothyroidism, or simple put, an under active thyroid. And now if this chappy called a the thyroid glad is a lazy bum, what happens is your body also slows down. The individuals metabolism becomes slow and the body is ever too tired to partake in any sensible physical activity.
Another condition with a very nice name is the Cushing syndrome. My first born is getting that name Cushing!
Here the adrenal glands produce an excess of a tiredness hormone called Cortisol.
And i must say its  rare. But it causes mainly upper body fat gain which leaves you looking like an old fashioned soccer trophy.

Stress
For most people the cheapest stress reliever is a tub of Ice Cream. And we all know most of it goes to the curves!


Pregnancy
You have a human being growing inside you. Need i say more? But general changes in the bodies physiology encourage a whole lot of fat deposition to probably keep the little one more comfy.

Other Causes
Aging, smoking, lack of sleep.

Moral.
The blame on weight gain should not be put squarely on food! Its important for one to first examine the factors  that lead them to eat excessively! A good personal trainer must examine the individuals life style and tune to promote health eating habits together with a  good exercise plan.
